Proud of These Students
We promised you Shakespeare photos, and they're coming soon. But first, there's three other bits of news we'd like to share. Since the first item is a little time-sensitive, we're moving it to the front of the line.
Felix Brown, pictured above, is a Martin Saints freshman. You can see him tomorrow (Thursday) night, 7:30, at the Oaks Center Cinema, in Matt Talbot: Urban Mystic (watch the trailer). Felix plays the young Matt Talbot.
Talbot was born into poverty nearly 200 years ago in Dublin. Talbot battled alcoholism from the age of 12, but, after hitting rock bottom and encountering the faith, he turned his life around and led a life of prayer, asceticism, and service. Today the cause for his canonization is advancing. He is a patron for anyone struggling with addiction. Local film director Bill Rose - who won an Emmy for his documentary about St. Katharine Drexel - has made this new film about Talbot's life, and our Felix plays Talbot as a boy.
Can't make it to Oaks cinema tomorrow night? You'll have another chance at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute on April 15, and we're also going to see if we can arrange a screening here at school, maybe including a Q&A with Felix and director Bill Rose (who also teaches our filmmaking summer camp - more details about that soon).
Meanwhile, while we're talking about students who make us proud, junior Lucia Volpe was recently named "Player of the Year" in the girls basketball Red Division of the Penn-Jersey Athletic Association. All the league coaches got a vote, except you couldn't vote for your own school. Lucia was the unanimous, consensus choice from all the other teams.
And sticking with basketball for a moment, freshman MJ Clark and senior Nora Raybould also represented Martin Saints at the girls all-star game. On the boys side, seniors Joel Kaceli, Owen Dernlan, and Owen Watters were also all-stars. All of this from a basketball program that did not exist just four years ago. Don't you want to come to our boys basketball summer camp?!
And, speaking of senior Joel Kaceli, that's him in this photo, standing with Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick. Congressman Fitzpatrick nominated Joel to the United States Military Academy at West Point and the Naval Academy in Annapolis. Joel also has an invitation from Villanova's Naval ROTC. Joel has some big decisions to make in the coming weeks. Let's pray for him.
Finally, if you're intrigued by this small school that punches above its weight, why not come to our admissions open house this Sunday, March 22, at noon.Details here.
