Rod Dreher's "The Benedict Option" -- November 3, 2017
Rod Dreher, author of the bestselling book The Benedict Option, will be speaking at Martin Saints Classical High School on Friday, November 3, at 7:30pm. Everyone is invited. Come find us in the big parish basement at our campus at Holy Martyrs Parish Church, 120 Allison Road in Oreland.
Why have we invited Rod? Because Rod writes about the way contemporary western culture is changing, and how Christians should adapt so that we can live faithfully, as well as pass the faith along to the next generation.
Another journalist - George Orwell - once famously said "to see what is in front of one's nose is a constant struggle." In other word, truthfully reading the signs of the times, and understanding the deep currents in our daily lives, can be very difficult. For that reason, we're grateful that Rod covers a range of topics in his book, things like technology, sexuality, work, politics and economics. In one chapter, Rod specifically discusses Christian schools and classical education.
Rod writes from an ecumenical perspective, which may differ at times from the more specifically Catholic approach we take at Martin Saints. But we are convinced that the conversation Rod has initiated is an important one for all Christians to take seriously.
Please come join our conversation on Friday, November 3, 2017, at 7:30pm, and buy a book if you haven't already.
May the peace of God be with you and protect you, and may Sts. Louis and Zélie Martin, and their daughter St. Thérèse of Lisieux, pray for us all.
